Feasibility of Implementation

Whenever there is a communication between two devices that is already networked, the users are able to share files, printers and other hardware and software resources. And with this, College of Information and Communications Technology is one of the colleges that must prefer for a networked establishment.

To make it to reality, first it must have a network design for a better picture of the type of connection of the college. In the proposed network design, star topology is used not only because it is the mostly applied type of network topology but also for one of its major advantages wherein every workstation are connected to a switch or a hub, and whenever workstation fails, the whole system will not be affected. But this also has a disadvantage which is when the hub fails, the whole network collapses. Star topology is great in connecting large number of computers and of wire lengths. It also offers centralized resource management, which can reduce cost in the long run by network management much easy. With star topology it is easy to add workstation.

The numbers of hubs are placed at each room for better maintenance and manipulation, and these hubs are linked through wires for each storey and buildings. This network design is good to be implemented for it has good advantages with regards to the availability and ability of transferring files.

We also used server-based type of network that will help to the maintenance of the network connections and the units. This network design is also cost-effective for it uses affordable equipments. Connecting wires are placed through the walls for more convenience rather than placing wires on the floor that sometimes might lead to accidents. This helps the college to have easy transactions with regards to file sharing and people communication.

Server-based type of network is design to network more than ten computers. It is also design to serve the request of client for the network resources. It can also handle up to thousands of users to keep pace with growth and expansion of an organization. Also, with this type of network, data back-ups and file synchronization are easier. With that, rules and regulations must be implemented within the college of Information and Communication Technology, in line with the maintenance of the network and for the security of the files to avoid damage and data loss. They must also know how to give importance to the various resources used in their college.

Of course, there should be a big consideration on the costing because designing a network for a college is expensive including the software and hardware set-up.

Costs:

Development Costs:

Software – P,696

Total A = P3,696

Operating Costs:

Maintenance @ P1,500 every 4 months P1,500 * 4 = 6,000 per year

1 internet connection (DSL) @ P1,000 per month P1,000 * 12 = P12, 000 per year

Materials Expenses of peripherals and devices/room = 613,970

Total B = P631,970

Benefits:

Improved customer (member) service and retention: estimate P5,000 per year

More ability to attract donations from the administration: estimate P10,000 per year

Total C = P15,000

Revenue= P631,970 - P15,000 = P616,970

year B (10%) C (12%)

0 631,970 P15,000

1 695,167 16,800

2 758,364 18,816

3 821,561 21,074

4 884,758 23,602

5 947,955 26,434
